Who Are We?

How do we do this?

A staff of approximately 125 volunteers who have specialized training to perform specific duties give up their time to train and respond to emergency situations throughout the county. These volunteers are Amateur Radio Operators, Hazardous Material Specialists, Weather Specialists, Radiological Monitoring personnel, Public Affairs Coordinators, Engineers, Fire Fighters, Law Enforcement and emergency medical personnel. All of these different specializations brought together form Emergency Management.

Where are we located?

The Madison County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is located on 600 North between State Road 9 and Madison Avenue. The EOC is the location for emergency coordinators to come together during disaster situations.                       

What type of disasters threaten Madison County?

Madison County, IN is threatened daily by potential Hazardous Material releases from fixed facilities, highways, railways and the air. In addition, we are threatened by Tornadoes, Flooding, Winter Storms, and Drought. Beyond Natural Disasters, and Technological Disasters, we are also susceptible to acts of Terrorism and Sabotage.

Can we monitor Emergency Management activities?

The Madison County Emergency Management Agency can be monitored on 453.825 MHz and our StormNet observers use 146.820 MHz. These two frequencies can provide you with advance warning to severe weather and other activities in Madison County. In addition, the National Weather Service transmits weather warnings on 162.550 MHz. These three frequencies can all be monitored on any police scanner radio.
